Most of our problems start in the space between our ears. How we think determines how we act. Lifelong experiences, good and bad, sad and happy weave together to form a screen through which we view ourselves and the rest of the world. These perceptions are subjective and very much based on emotions.
As we discussed in previous posts the heart is the source of our thoughts and when corrupted causes a shift in our focus and consequently actions.
It has been scientifically proven that everything we read, watch and listen impacts us physically and psychologically. Example: even though we are not the ones playing the music, listening to it causes our brains to release so called “happy – feel good” hormones. In addition music therapy helps to relieve stress, minimize and/or control pain in patients. Now I want you think of the effects that indecent TV shows, book, music and internet sites have on individuals. Yes, the effects can be devastating. Sadly because of the way how one feels when the "happy" hormones are released it is very easy for an activity to become a habit and consequently for many turn into addiction. This is why Sripture warns us time and time again to be vigilant and not forsake its teaching. We are to wash the evil from our hearts with the word of God daily. Replacing wicked thoughts with pure ones. (Jer 4:14) Lies are to be replaced with the Truth. Placing the Lord in the center of our hearts and letting go of idols. Think of it as allowing God to reformat our hearts and install new software (mind). The faulty perceptions of who we are and how we respond to the world around us overtime align with the Truth.
Today I encourage you to think about this: Our thoughts have power, they are the fuel behind our actions. The heart fuels the thoughts. What are your exposing them to?
"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened." Ro 1:21
"For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander." Mt 15:19
Walk with God and glorify His name.
My prayer is that this will be a place where you find hope and nourishment for your soul.
