This week we'll continue with the topic of Prioritizing Christ in a Q&A session with our guest Dr. Jessie Bushi.
D.B.: What does it mean for you to prioritize Christ?
Dr. J.B.: I believe in divine intervention and in the verses of Luke 12:5-6, where it is clearly written: “I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to caste into hell.”
So as per this verse and the words spoken by our Lord, Jesus Christ, my first and foremost priority always is Christ; living day by day as per His teachings. I do this now and have been doing this since I was 17. I proudly say today that God has shown numerous miracles in my life and also in lives of those who believed in Him and for whom I pray sincerely.
You may think that I am doing this only out of fear of perishing in hell, but NO. I prioritize Christ because I feel Christ is my best friend and like my best sibling, with whom I can share everything and anything. I tell this to my husband, my kids, and they too experienced this. And now I can say that, not only for me, but also for my family, our first priority is Christ Jesus.
By saying this I mean not only reading and meditating on the Bible and praying, but spreading the good news to all, sharing the burden of reaching those who never heard of Christ.
D.B.: Why it is important for you to prioritize Christ?
Dr. J.B.: When you tell a person who never ate a mango about the taste of mango, how does he feel? Do you think he will understand it correctly? Tasting sweet has many meanings. Sugar tastes sweet, honey tastes sweet, apple also is sweet, but all these are many varieties of sweetness. Mango has unique kind of sweetness, which a person should taste and find for himself. In the same manner, knowing Christ as personal savior and living as per the Word is also unique. Each individual should know that for himself/herself. Just by giving examples or illustrations, we cannot make any one understand that feeling. The Word says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him” (Psalm 34:8).
Prioritizing Christ is very important for me, as I believe neither in worldly blessings nor comforts. The verses Luke 12:5-6 ring in my ear constantly and help me to understand situations clearly. There may be a situation where by ignoring a rule position, I may get some financial profit. But the Holy Spirit in me gently reminds me about the wrong. Naturally that puts me in my place, and when such a situation occurs for a second time, I boldly say ‘no’ and that makes me happy. In everyday life, the Spirit guides you in a proper way when you put Christ in first place.
