Shield of Faith
This Lent season I feel like my faith is going through a refining fire. It has been one challenge after another. There are instances when I’m at a loss for words. In those moments my prayer consists of only one word – Jesus. I don’t know what your experience is this Lent season but I do know that as believers God commands us to obtain and maintain strong faith.
Faith is having trust and confidence in someone or something. In the Bible faith is defined as “… being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Heb 11:1. My husband often uses the following analogy when trying to explain faith – “We don’t see the brakes of our cars but we trust that they work.” Sounds a little funny but when I think about it I have not seen anyone ask the dealer to lift the car so they can make sure that the brakes are in place, nor do we go out every morning making sure of the same. We just get in the vehicle and drive, confident that when applied the brakes will work. God requires of us to have unshakable confidence in Him. This is possible only by hearing His word. (Ro 10:17)
For a Christian faith is:
· Indispensable – without it is impossible to please God. (Jn 6:28-29, Heb 11:6)
· Assurance for success – blessings according to our faith. (Mt 8:13, Mt 9:30, Mk 9:23) Our trust in God removes obstacles. (Mk 11:22, Lk 8:50)
· Essential in prayer – When we pray we must trust in the character of God and His sovereignty. It is vital to have an accurate view of who God is based on the Word. (Jas 1:5-6)
· A weapon of defense – We face the enemy from position of security and victory when we trust God’s character and have accepted Jesus’ gift of salvation. (Heb 10:22, 1Ti 1:19; 6:12)
Making it personal:
Does your view of God changes based on your circumstances or your circumstances change based on your view of who God is?
If your answer to the 1st half of this question is "yes" I encourage you to write the scriptures from this post on flash cards or sticky notes, mark them in your Bibles. Read them out loud throughout this week as often as possible. Let your mind be renewed by the truth.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” Ro 10:17
Walk with God and glorify His name.
My prayer is that this will be a place where you find hope and nourishment for your soul.
