Belt of Truth
"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." Eph6:11-18
As I mentioned in the previous post today we will focus on discovering how to use God’s Word as a defense weapon. We will study the Armor of God as described in Eph 6:11-18 and see how it relates to Jesus’ experience in the wilderness.
“Stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…” Eph6:14
The purpose of a belt is to hold, keep clothing in place and also to support, carry weapons. It is to be buckled or secured close to one's body (waist). Why it is important to have the truth as a belt - because that is what holds everything together in place. When the enemy starts attacking, throwing lies at us we know what keep us together as a person:
·Our Rock – God. His ways are perfect and just. He is holy and that eliminates the doubt if His word is true. Dt32:4, Heb6:18.
·Christ Jesus is the truth – John14:6; 18:37. When the enemy whispers that we are flawed and our own strength fails us - the belt of truth fastened to our waist keeps us secured. Not our deeds but what Jesus, our Lord and Savior did on the cross defines who we are. Eph2:8, Tit3:5, 2Co5:17
We can safely conclude that the truth is precious, it guides and protects us Ps119:72-80, Ps40:11. It gives us hope, its promises are steadfast. We need not panic or scramble for a way out when the enemy strikes. We stand firm - fixed, knowing (having buckled the belt of truth) that no counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders can stand in Its presence. 2The2:10. The truth lasts forever. Pr12:19
Making it personal:
·Having a belt of truth requires consistent work on our part – that is to know the word of God. Spending consistent time in it, so it is written on our hearts. We should do our best to memorize power verses, which we can recall in time of need, following the example of our Savior in the wilderness. We cannot respond with “It is written…” if we don’t open our bibles regularly.
·Prayer – Let’s ask God to help us in the process of knitting our belt of truth. He did not intend for us to do this alone or in our own strength. Phil1:6
Heavenly Father, Rock of Truth, please forgive me for trying to do life in my own strength and come to you when the rug is being pulled under my feet. Your ways are perfect and just, your word is full of promises and instructions that I ask You to help me engrave on my heart. I am weak, my strength has and will continue to fail me but you never will. Lord thank you for redeeming my life so I can spend eternity with you, grant me the wisdom and perseverance I need. Help me as I knit my belt of truth, so that I can stand firm with it buckled around my waist.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Walk with God and glorify His name.
