The Word – Food for the Soul
Today we will concentrate on THE WORD and how it satisfies our appetite. Every time Satan approached Jesus and presented a new temptation the response from our Lord was - it is written. The Word is powerful and sufficient to send Satan away. It is unfortunate that a lot of Christians don’t know how to use it. I think more often than not we have a hard time believing that its promises really apply to us. Before we explore how we are to use the word of God as a defense weapon let’s study how it addresses our hunger. The word of God is a food for the soul and the only one that satisfies our deepest longings. The Word of God:
·Satisfies: Dt8:3, Job23:12
·Delights: Ps119:103, Jer15:16
·Gives hope: Ro15:4
·Warns us: 1Co10:11
·Gives us knowledge so we can mature as Christ followers: 1Pe 2:2, 1Jn5:13, Dt11:19, 2Ch17:9
·Is trustworthy: 1Ki8:56, Ps111:7, Eze12:25, Mt5:18, Lk21:33
·Lights up the darkness: Pr6:23, Ps119:130, 2Pe1:19
·Heals: Ps107:20, Mt8:8
Making it personal:
I hope you took the time and answered the questions from the previous posting. Today I want you to align your answers with The Word.
·Are you in distress? – The Word gives us Hope – Ro15:4
·What are you hungry for? – The Word satisfies - Dt8:3, Job23:12
·Have you shared with the Lord your struggle? – The Word lights up the darkness Pr6:23, Ps119:130 and instructs in the way we should go – 1Pe2:2
I encourage you to pick scripture for each one of the answers you gave to these questions and use them as your prayer. Here is an example:
Distress –Frustrated, Tired, Disappointed, Sad and Hopeless
Father, by faith I accept that your word is hope giving. Everything that was written in the past was written to teach me, so through endurance and the encouragement of the scripture I may have hope. (Ro15:4)
Hungry for - Taming the tongue
Father, I pray to be able to speak with gentle and kind words that bring encouragement and healing. God you humbled me, causing me to hunger, I pray that you will feed me for I know that I cannot live by bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. (Dt8:3)
Sharing with the Lord in prayer:
God, I’m not sure of so many things but I believe that your word is true and trustworthy; I pray in faith that it will bring light on my path and give me understanding. (Ps111:7, Ps119:105) Lord discipline and correct me, so that I walk in the way of life. (Pr6:23) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
God’s word is living; the same book speaks to each believer addressing their situations personally. It is a food for the soul and the only true way to satisfy our deepest longings. This week I encourage you to meditate on these truths. Pray specifically for your struggles, if trusting God with your problems is the issue; ask Him to help you see the cross with new eyes, so you can believe in the Lord’s unconditional and sacrificial love.
Walk with God and glorify His name.
