Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit
Thank you for joining me as we take a journey into Jesus’ forty days of fasting and temptation. It will be a time of reflection, repentance and devotion.
Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
Today we will focus on Luke4:1 – What does it mean to have a Spirit filled life?
The Christian life is not for cowards. There is a constant war that wages between the desires of our flesh and the Holy Spirit residing in us. A spirit filled individual relinquishes to the will of God, allowing the truth of scripture to penetrate deep into the heart and mind resulting in a transformed life. It is in this state that we are able to proclaim God’s message boldly in word and deed; it is God’s power in us unleashed. We are able to see beyond this life and focus on the things that have eternal value. (Acts4:31; 7:55)
The Holy Spirit is our counselor who guides us into what is true (Jn16:13). In times of uncertainty He is the one who directs our steps in the way we should go (Isa42:16, Ac10:19-20) and at times that means going into the wilderness where the master cuts every branch that bears no fruit and prunes the ones that do, so we can bear even more fruit (Jn15:1-3). What are some of the branches? - Relationships that are destructive and hinder our spiritual growth; sin such as emotions, behaviors and thoughts that are not aligned with scripture prevent us from moving forward with God’s plan for our lives.
Something to think about:
· Have you relinquished to the will of God?
· What is preventing you to do so?
· Are you aware of any branches that God has been speaking to you about cutting off?
· What are the branches that need some pruning? Ask God to help you see the truth.
· Are you willing to let God do His work in you this Lent season?
If the answer to the last question is yes, please invite God to begin to work in your life.
Dear God, thank you for the privilege of having the Holy Spirit residing in me, guiding me in the way I should go, instructing me when the present and future seem so uncertain. Father God, despite being scared I surrender my will to You. I invite you afresh into my life and ask that your word penetrates into the dark places of my heart, mind and soul bringing light and truth. Cut and prune so I can bear fruit and live the life you have planned specifically for me before the foundation of the earth. My desire is to live the abundant life your word promises, life that brings you glory and honor. May this Lent season be a fresh beginning of a Spirit filled life. Thank you Father for hearing and answering my prayer.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Walk with God and glorify His name.
