Day20: What Do You Do When Your Prayers Don’t Seem to Reach God’s Ears?
I don’t know about you but I have had my moments when in the natural it looked like my prayers just hit the ceiling. It brings feelings of discouragement, frustration, doubt, and defeat. How do you respond when you’ve done all you could do in order to have a successful prayer life and yet this one request seems to never reach God’s ears?
We can classify God’s answers to our prayers roughly in 3 categories:
© Yes! – Happy times
© No! – God knows what’s best
© ___! Silence – Time of waiting
The first two categories are straightforward but it is in the “waiting room” that our faith is being tested and life lessons learned. If we allow God to interrupt us while we are waiting He will mold our character into Christ’s likeness. Often we associate waiting with boredom and waste of time. Some of us have become really good at using every minute, so you treat waiting as a time to get something else done, not a bad idea, unless God wants your undivided attention.
Here are some simple steps that will help you focus while you are stock in the waiting room:
© Worship – God is to be praised and worshiped for who He is in all circumstances. Read 1Cor14:25, 2Ki17:39, Ex23:25
© Thanksgiving – Thank God for His faithfulness and promises. Read 1Ch16:8-11, Ps50:14-15
© Fasting – This is a time dedicated to abstaining from food and drink in order for one to turn away from the world of senses and focus on the things above. Fasting brakes us free from the chains of bondage that holds us back. Read Ac9:3-12, Isa58:6-9
© Service – If you are not actively serving God, get involved, be intentional about it. Read Jn13:14, Mk10:43, and Isa40:30-31
© Pray – Continue to bring your petition to the Lord, acknowledging our dependence on Him. Read 1Th5:16-18
In God’s perfect timing the answer to your prayers will be revealed, until then “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” Ps27:14
Reading plan for today:
Rev5:8, 1Ch16:8-11, Ps50:14-15, Ac9:3-12, Isa58:6-9, Jn13:14, Mk10:43, Isa8:17, Isa40:30-31, and
Day 20 Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the gift of prayer. God you hear every plea and consider it precious. In this time of waiting I am getting so discouraged and doubtful. Will you please come and join me in the “waiting room”, teach me the things I need to know. Father use this time to impart your truths in my heart and mold me into the likeness of Christ. Help me to trust you and not lose faith. Lord, may I not stay idle or become a busy body but serve you and those you send my way purposefully. Help me to rest in the shadow of your wings while awaiting the answer to my prayer. Prepare my heart, so I can accept it graciously. Glory and praise to you Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Walk with God and glorify His name.
My prayer is that this will be a place where you find hope and nourishment for your soul.
